Sex Therapy Certificate Program

Course Description:

This Sex Therapy Certificate Program provides specialized training in sex counselling and therapy. Participants can choose to enroll in a number of modules (Part 1, 2, 3, & 4) to meet their learning needs. This advanced program is intended for participants who are interested in pursing clinical practice in sex therapy. This course provides an in-depth look at sexual dysfunction and related treatments. Areas of primary focus include:
  • Clinical knowledge of sexual dysfunctions specific to desire, arousal, orgasm and pain disorders
  • Diagnosis and treatment of sexual dysfunctions
This course is designed for participants with prior knowledge and clinical experience in relationship therapy (couple and family therapy).

The Sex Therapy Certificate Program consists of the successful completion of the four courses listed below for a total of 39 hours of instruction.  All courses are designed as individual workshops or as a certificate program.


Part 1:
Sex Therapy:  Overview of basic concepts and clinical applications


This 2-day course provides an in-depth look at sexual dysfunction and related treatments.  This advanced course is intended for participants who are interested in pursuing clinical practice in sex therapy. Participants should have prior knowledge and clinical experience in relationship therapy (couple and/or family therapy).  Participants will learn:

  • Why it is important to understand aspects of your clients' sexual concerns
  • How common sexual concerns are for both men and women
  • Medical aspects of sexual dysfunction
  • Integrating medical therapies with sex therapy
  • What is Sex Therapy?
  • Basics of taking a Sexual History with Individuals and/or Couples.
  • Interviewing couples with sexual concerns
  • Outline of therapeutic approaches to sexual dysfunctions
